Nakasone Dojo is proud to be the first branch dojo of Hanshi Koichi Nakasone’s Ryukyu Ocho Sui-Di Bujutsu Kyokai (Okinawan Kingdom Sui-Di Martial Arts Association), teaching Okinawan Full Contact Karate as Hanshi Nakasone intended. Our focus is on striving for the perfection of technique, making this system an ideal blend of functional self-defense and traditional martial arts.
Ryukyu Ocho Sui-Di Karate encompasses a variety of essential martial arts skills. At the heart of our training is kata, the practice of structured forms that build discipline, sharpen techniques, and establish the foundation of your Karate journey. From kata, we move into bunkai, where students learn to apply the advanced fighting techniques embedded in each form, bringing real-world effectiveness to their practice.
Training also includes fundamental drills, which focus on refining techniques and improving overall combat readiness. Sparring is a crucial element in developing timing, distance control, and application of techniques under pressure. This ensures students build the practical fighting skills necessary for both self-defense and competition.
A unique aspect of Sui-Di Karate is the incorporation of joint locks and takedowns from the Okinawan grappling art of Tuidi. These techniques teach students how to control an opponent through joint manipulation and execute efficient throws, making Sui-Di a highly practical and versatile art for real-world scenarios.

Additionally, students practice tante-ho, which focuses on body hardening and conditioning, and tameshiwari, the breaking of boards and other materials. This not only demonstrates strength but also precision and mental toughness.
Hanshi Koichi Nakasone’s legacy is carried forward through our dojo, as we remain committed to teaching his system directly from his Honbu (headquarters) dojo in Okinawa. His approach combines traditional practices with functional, real-world self-defense techniques, ensuring that students develop both martial ability and strong character.
Northern MMA’s Karate program is led by Lorenzo Nigli, a 3rd Dan Black Belt personally graded by Hanshi Nakasone. Lorenzo has trained in Karate since 1997 and has been traveling to Okinawa and Japan regularly since 2002 to train under Nakasone, ensuring that students receive authentic instruction. His competitive experience includes four appearances at the World Ryukyu Full Contact Karate Championships in Okinawa (2011, 2015, 2018, and 2019), where he secured podium finishes in both 2018 and 2019.
Led by an exceptional team, Northern MMA’s Karate program brings authentic Okinawan Karate to life, giving students direct access to this profound martial art and its traditions.
