Kids Martial Arts Classes at Northern MMA

At Northern Mixed Martial Arts, we believe that martial arts are an excellent way for kids to develop important life skills while staying active and having fun. Our kids’ programs are designed to teach self-defense, build confidence, foster respect, promote teamwork, and heighten awareness of their surroundings—all in a safe and supportive environment.
We offer classes in four dynamic martial arts disciplines: Karate, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Japanese Ju Jitsu. Each class focuses on personal development while teaching the practical skills needed for self-defense. Here’s a breakdown of what each martial art offers for your child:

Junior BJJ

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is renowned for its focus on ground fighting and grappling techniques. In our BJJ classes, kids learn how to defend themselves by using leverage and technique to overcome larger and stronger opponents. The playful yet challenging nature of BJJ makes it ideal for children, as it encourages problem-solving, builds confidence, and enhances body awareness. Through sparring (commonly referred to as “rolling”), kids gain practical experience while having fun in a safe environment.

Junior Ju-Jitsu

In our Japanese Ju Jitsu classes, kids are introduced to a comprehensive martial art that incorporates joint locks, throws, and takedowns. This traditional form of self-defense is excellent for teaching kids how to handle real-world situations with control and confidence. It promotes discipline, patience, and respect for others, while also instilling valuable self-defense techniques that can be applied in a variety of situations.

Kids Kickboxing

Junior Kickboxing

The kids’ Kickboxing program at Northern MMA introduces students to the basics of striking, incorporating punches, kicks, and combinations. Originating from a blend of Full Contact Karate, Western Boxing, and Muay Thai, Dutch Kickboxing encourages fluidity, precision, and speed. These classes help develop strong footwork, quick reflexes, and solid defense, allowing kids to improve both physically and mentally while learning valuable self-defense skills.

Junior Karate

Our Okinawan Full Contact Karate classes teach kids the value of discipline, respect, and perseverance. Through the practice of kata (pre-arranged movements), bunkai (application of techniques), and sparring, kids learn effective self-defense techniques while also improving their coordination and balance. Karate helps students build focus and mental resilience, key qualities that benefit them in both martial arts and everyday life.
